Waiting

During this uncertain time of life
I've realized how to depend on only one
that one being my own self
figures no one else will get it done

Certain people will forever let me down
waiting for them is like waiting for snow
while I stand out here in bleakest cold
hoping for something entirely too slow

I can't wait that long for change
I'll have to learn to let them go
I'll stand through this darkness alone
until the first stars begin to glow

When I see the brightest stars emerge
I'll make wishes for the people that stayed
those who encouraged me through the darkest hours
and guided me the entire way
